Current Labor Markets Affect Strategic Planning

The famous mantra “failing to plan is planning to fail” may seem irrelevant to most, but in fact it may be one of the most important for businesses to understand. Strategic workforce planning is a process that ensures that your business has the right people in the right jobs at the right time to achieve maximum results. Strategically planning will enable companies to understand their current situations and take advantage of labor market forecasts.

To effectively plan, businesses need to understand how the current labor market directly affects their employment process. Considering multiple elements of the labor market will enable employers to make informed decisions and detect potential problems they may encounter during the hiring process. Today’s economy provides a unique situation that requires businesses to primarily focus on two elements of the labor market when strategically planning. Those elements include demographic trends, and talent movement trends within each industry.

First, demographic trends are rarely given the consideration they deserve during the hiring process, but they can severely impact how businesses create strategic plans. Equal opportunities are promoted in the majority of businesses today, but research shows there are some demographics to think about in order to maximize productivity.

The Advantages of Sending Your Clients Business Postcards

On-demand business postcards can offer the edge that you seek. When it comes to generating business leads online, postcards are an excellent way to target advertising to the individual consumer rather than taking the “one size fits all” approach.

The Benefits of Personalization

No matter what business field you might represent, there are a number of benefits to utilizing on-demand business postcards. Take restaurants and hotels for example. By offering postcards, they can offer the consumer a visual reminder of the various menu items or amenities that they have to offer. Many consumers appreciate being able to book a room or plan a meal ahead of time. A postcard can help to persuade them to choose a certain hotel or restaurant.

The same can be said for house maintenance services such as a lawn care company or contractor. A business postcard can offer a visual reminder as to why your business will offer a better experience than your competitors. The home needs industry such as interior decorators, house cleaning services, and other such businesses can send out personalized on-demand business postcards to website visitors detailing how they can help to improve the consumer’s home.

Entrepreneur’s Edge In Creating Strategic Plan

You have certainly either read about, experienced firsthand, or heard from others how difficult it is the majority of the time, to really get something accomplished regarding business strategy, change or a new way to do things, in a Corporate Environment. The majority of entrepreneurs are running either a solo business operation or they have a small group of employees working with them. This permits the entrepreneur to create their strategic business plan in an easier environment and to implement their plan with less challenges. If there are issues there are specifically three:

Taking the first step and creating a strategic business plan(over 75% of small businesses do not have a strategic plan)

Working with an adviser or mentor who is pulling you to aim higher(over 80% of executive teams spend less than one hour per month discussing strategy)

Having the accountability to stay on course and constantly measure where you are and where you are heading(over 85% of organizations do not execute their strategies in a successful manner)

Do I Need a Strategic Plan?

My first reaction on being asked this question was: is this person crazy? Of course you do!!

But then, on reflection, I realized that this being the (Ameri-) English language we should probably go over some definitions and clarification of what (I think) you need when.

So, what is a ‘strategic plan’? It is the outcome of ‘strategic planning’. According to wikipedia It is “an organization’s process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people”.

If you are just starting out, with an idea in your head or on a napkin, then your first ‘strategic plan’ can be as simple as a few words about the problem/opportunity you are addressing, what your solution is, how you intend to monetize that solution, who your target market is and how you intend to get your product/service to those target markets.

As you are fleshing out your idea and assessing the business’ feasibility you are doing strategic planning, usually with input from advisors and others that can provide information and answers to questions you will have.

Business cards speak volumes about who you are, what you offer and how serious you are marketing YOU, Inc. as a business. Oh! So, you have a resume and don’t need business cards. Here are some proven tips using business cards to increase your chances of landing a job or creating a business opportunity.

1. Never leave home without them. Before leaving home, your checklist should be expanded to include business cards, as part of “do I have my wallet/money, house keys, driver’s license?” Any “per chance” meeting is an opportunity to give out a business card. A morning run or a quick trip to the local store could be an opportunity to network. My wife and I always ask each other “do you have business cards”, before leaving the house. Make it a habit to carry business cards.

Strategic Marketing Management

Strategic management helps make the business competitive. The survival of the business depends to a large extent on its ability to address specific problems to the organization effectively. This is where strategy in business management comes in (QuickMBA, 2006).

Strategy provides the direction in which the business should take. Delineating company objectives clearly, establishing policies and plans and implementing plans by using resources are all parts of an effective strategy. Knowing the strategy that works then is essential for the growth of the company (Wikipedia, 2006).

Strategy based on strong brands is likely to be sustainable because it creates competitive barriers` (David Aaker, 1998 `Strategic Market Management` p.172).

Strong brands have proven their sustainability and strength throughout the years. Their strategies therefore are effective in maintaining or surpassing their leadership in the market.

In achieving a sustainable competitive advantage the marketing strategies of both successful and unsuccessful companies serve as clear examples of what works and does not work in business.

To be sure that one would be a successful in business venture, the company needs to consider some salient points. Questions don’t have to be addressed all at one time but should be considered as one move along. It is also important to solicit the aid of professionals or people conversant of the process so as to facilitate the transition.
